Deception Pass

Deception Pass

We’ve been blessed with some dry and warmer (for winter) weather this past week here in the Upper Left USA so Ryan and I decided to go on a bike bro adventure to Deception Pass.

I’ve only driven across Deception once and it’s quite the stunner. With the weather report hinting at 50 and partly sunny I was hyped for this bike adventure.

Deception Pass in all her glory, that blue stuff in the sky did not come out.

The plan was to start in Mount Vernon, pedal west to La Conner, ride through Swinomish Reservation, cross Fidalgo Bay, and circle Fidalgo Island.

The route

The weather report stated a high in the low 50 with partly sunny skies. I don’t think it ever got above 45 and the sun never showed her face. I decided against shoe covers and my feet were numb by mile 20, I regretted that decision. Thankfully it didn’t rain.

Fidalgo Bay has this sweet path across the water. What is hard to see are the shells from high tide all over the path.

The stats…

  • 57.8 miles
  • 3:44:58 moving time
  • 2,131 feet of climbing
  • 1,888 calories burned

Can’t wait to do this route again and snag some trophies.

Extreme!!!

I had an Extreme Suffer Score, but my legs didn’t cramp as bad as last week’s Mercer Loop, and that was only 30 something miles. Bananas really help!

Cycling after losing close to 40 lbs is a whole new world that I’m just getting used to. I am really looking forward to riding more in 2017 and my goal is 3,000 miles, I did 2,700 in 2016.
